Ryan Young has been promoted to director of environmental health and safety within the University of Pittsburgh’s office of public safety and emergency management.
As director, Young will provide strategic direction for the development and implementation of a comprehensive EH&S plan for the University, as well as collaborate with University leadership to identify, monitor and address environmental health and safety risks.
His responsibilities also include managing all occupational safety, health and training programs for the University and serving as the leader for EH&S at all five Pitt campuses and University-owned and -managed locations.
Since 2015, Young has been an integral part of the EH&S team, when he began as the fire safety specialist. Throughout the years, Young has taken on additional responsibilities within the department, including serving as the associate director for safety programs since August 2024, and has been instrumental in building strong working relationships with stakeholders at all Pitt campuses.
Young took a lead role in laying the foundation for improved construction and occupational safety programs, including enhancing our task and group-specific OSHA training programs and injury prevention initiatives.
